FlexTool: Installation on Windows 8 and later

Installing FlexTool 5.4 on Windows 8 and later

Problem

FlexTool V5.4 and the other software components included on the installation CD cannot be installed on operating systems newer than Windows 7 (such as Windows 8.1) using the standard FlexTool Install Manager "setup.exe" in the root directory of the CD [1].
The Install Manager refuses to install, displaying the message "This system does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." [2,3]

Workaround

Install or activate components individually:

[04] Install FlexTool using "setup.exe" in the subdirectory of the desired language \FlexTool\FlexTool-xx (xx=de,it,fr)

[05] Install the CAN driver for the Griesser LINK using "PcanOemSetup.exe" in the \PCAN subdirectory

[06] Install the BGS operator terminal using "setup.exe" in the subdirectory of the desired language \BGS\BGS-xx (xx=de,it,fr)

[07] Install the Griesser Protocol Analyzer GPA using "setup.exe" in the subdirectory of the desired language \GPA\GPA-xx (xx=de,it,fr)

[08] DO NOT install: .NET Framework V3.5 SP1 using "dotnetfx35.exe" in the "\DotNet" subdirectory, but instead …

… enable via Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off: Enable

the entry ".NET Framework V3.5 …" including the subordinate entries [10,11,12].

The FlexTool will only work after this activation has taken place; otherwise, an error message will appear at startup [09,13]
